Tok, Alaska May 30
We crossed the border last night at 9 pm into Alaska. We had to cross a ferry on the Yukon River to get here. The ferry was a small boat and getting the motorcoach and the Jeep attached was really weird. We took the "Top of the World Highway" from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Canada. We then went to Chicken, Alaska. The highway went on the mountain tops and yes, snow again. Most of the road was gravel and we had to go slow. Here is a picture of the Jeep before we washed it. We got our fishing licenses today and tomorrow we are heading to Tangle Lake. We will finally be setting still for a while. We plan on fishing and canning the fish we catch. I am really looking forward to eating the fish we catch. The weather is really nice. I wore shorts today 74.

Yukon, Canada 5/28/10
Today we toured the town of Whitehorse. We saw a Vaudeville show / CanCan tonight. It was cute. This is a bald eagle pic along the roadside. And finally I found my true calling. We got low on cash so I had to get a job as an ambulance driver. Birdie re-enlisted. These were left behind around 1943. Tomorrow we head to Dawson City then to Chicken and a little side bar to Eagle. I wore shorts today and it was nice. I'll probably not have internet for a week soo until then. Bye

Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada
We left Montana on a Saturday am and went through the border without incident. They asked a few questions and that was in. Alberta Canada is the first providence to enter. We had to turn on the furnace to stay warm. (also snuggle). The air smells really sweet here. We see dandelions and new buds on the trees. The lakes are crystal clear with some being green, blue ,or whatever color the sky is. We are 3 hrs behind Florida. It doesn't get dark until about 11 pm and the sun comes up at 4 am. The prettiest thing is the snow covered mountains in the background. You can see on some of the pics I post. We finally have internet here and won't for another week after leaving here. We drove through British Columbia and then in the Yukon territory, all in Canada. We took a side trip with the Jeep and went to Skagway, Alaska yesterday. The weather was great in the 70's. This is where the cruise ships come in and there is a tourist town. I had a great time on a treasure hunt. We picked up a newsletter with free gifts at different locations, sooo I went around the town collecting my stuff. I came up with free northern lights pendants, pendant train, and a forget me not flower pendant (the Alaska state flower). Also some stores had the chains to go with it. We left Skagway and had to cross back into Canada. Along the way I have a few more animals to add to my list. There were more buffalo roaming, a moose followed beside us for about 1 min. and finally...yes bear. We have seen 9 s0 far. The one here was eating dandelions on the roadside yesterday. I got about 10 pics of him. We saw a black thing... We think it is a black prairie dog. (very rare). And of course there are the eagles and Canadian geese. There are a lot of holes, and rough roads on the Alaska Highway, also known as the Alcan Highway. This road was built by the USA for travel from the lower states to Alaska through Canada. Next we are heading to "Top of the World" highway to Dawson City, Chicken, and then to Tok, Alaska. Our mail and handguns are waiting for us in Tok. See ya soon.

Great Falls Montana
Well, we are here getting ready to cross the border. We have to mail off the handguns from here to Tok, Alaska because they are not allowed in Canada. We are at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Mt. We are the only ones at the Fam/Camp. I guess it is a little early. We ran through 60 mph wind gusts through the mountain pass. It was snowing in the mountains but we are at about 50's. I have a pic of the map so you can see how far it is from Chobee. I put checks on the places we stayed. So far our nextels don't work, but we carry a verizon phone which has worked well. Also we have been able to get internet access by using our verizon air card. We also have satellite TV and radio.
But, I guess in Alaska the comforts of home will be gone. We plan on taking the zodiac boat out for fishing trips and charting some trips also. I have 100 jars and a pressure cooker I got from mom to can the salmon. Put your bids in early for a can. The first 10 requests will get a jar of salmon. We are also going to go hiking and pan for gold. Oh yeah I forgot the quick trip to Hawaii. We can take a hop from Anchorage, Fairbanks, or at Travis Air Force base for free. sooo we might as well take advantage of the opportunity. Love to all, Louise and Birdie

Yellowstone Park. Montana and Wyoming
We left our camp site in SD and headed to Montana. The weather is like outdoor airconditioning. Here are some photos of our trip driving the motorcoach. Maybe you can see through my eyes all of the surrounding sites. Montana had wide open area of grazing cows with deer and antelope grazing with them. This was on green rolling hills with snow covered mountains behind them. We went to Livingston Mt. which is north of the entrance to yellowstone. Yellowstone became a national park on March 1, 1887. It took us all day to drive through the park. We left with the temp of 65 and went 8,363 ft up the top to 38. It snowed on us and there was 6 ft of snow on the ground. We saw buffalo and the calves, prairie dog villages, (they chirp), mule deer, antelope, elk, turkeys, and coyotes. They just walk along the road. We also saw "Old Faithful" , a place on my list of things I wanted to see. It goes off every 90 min. We walked up and it went off. It lasted about 2 min. There were waterfalls, frozen lakes, and many hot springs steaming. I took a video of all of it and it is nice. We are leaving tomorrow to head to Great Falls.....still haven't seen any bear of moose yet. I practiced my fly fishing in Texas and am ready to catch some salmon..
